What We See

The toast of town they were called,
They are a match-made-in-heaven,
The ideal couple,
None was surprised when they announced,
At the end of the festive season they tie the knot.

An idyllic marriage they had,
At least that was what everyone thought.
When she turned up with a black-eye,
Making an excuse; not seeing a door in a blackout,
Much thought was not given to it.
When he attended events, once-too-many times, alone;
Excusing her of having a headache,
Seeing her a day later,
Wrapped in blanket clothes with darkened lenses;
Questions were not asked.

When we close our eyes to what is seen,
Pretending what we think is what is real,
We miss the signs.
An idyllic marriage turned out to be,
Nothing more than a charade-in-tresses,
Masking inadequacies, fears, and tears.
Cat-fights, fist-fights and jaded dreams.

Perspective - His Version

Wild engaging frolics.
Time flees when with her.
For a while, I forget my woes.
The sun rises and sets with her.
She has messed me up for all others.
I delight in our little traverses.

My favorite day;
My day of birth.
She chose that day;
I have stopped wondering why.
I am not 'the one',
That's all she said.

She messed me up for all others.
Every good eatery reminds me of her.
I don't enjoy the sun anymore; it rose and set with her.
Her delightful scent;
Gone with my sense of smell.
My favorite dishes taste different;
They are not from her hands.
Friends come around;
Not the same with her not around.
She really messed me up for all others.
The worse mess of all;
She took away the music.

*** Love has been kind of one-sided lately. I explore both ways: man, woman, emotions. Enjoy.

Unsaid

He said all the right words.
Did all the right things.
She threw caution to the wind;
Melted like butter out in the sun.
He had her hanging on to morsels of words
Dripping from his lips;
Each drop brings a yearning for more.
The words she itches to hear are never uttered.
She learns from him the strangest of things.
He was hers; her very own muse.
It never occurred to her to ask;
Indeed whether he was truly all hers;
Not until SHE came.
He ruined everything.

Kisses and Losses

A Facebook status update of a friend read: In order to get to your Prince Charming, you have to kiss a lot of toads.
My response:

There seems to a certain structure when it comes to princes;
They deem it necessary to don disguises.
For odd, unfathomable reasons,
The skin of a toad is preferred.
If you are really a prince, why hide in a toad's skin?
And of all the creatures in the world, why choose to be a toad?
The Frog-Prince started this trend, I believe.
Then Beauty came with her Beast.
Damsels had to loss stuff in order to catch the Prince's attention.
Cinderella lost her gleaming glass slipper,
Into a deep trance, Sleeping Beauty fell,
Rapunzel became a baldy,
And Little Mermaid lost her magnificent tail.
Delving in.
Can we just skip the kissing of toads?
And losing property or bodily parts?
Get right to the Charming Prince?
Please?
